NJ Department of Agriculture Issues Burn Permit for Frost Protection – Thru April 5

New Jersey Department of Agriculture has issued a notice concerning open burning due to colder spring overnight temperatures presently forecasted for areas of New Jersey from March 22 through April 5th, 2022, which could adversely affect fruit, vegetable, and floriculture crops in bloom or near bloom around the state. Note: The NJDEP and New Jersey Forest Fire Service caution all farmers and agriculture businesses with respect to the use of open burning in high wind velocity conditions. Please take note that farmers are encouraged to utilize smudge pots is warming as necessary during higher wind conditions. Use of open burning when wind velocity is greater than 5mph is strictly prohibited, may contribute to wildfire risk, and can carry significant penalties. [Read more…]

Notes from the Cabernet Franc Wine Tasting Workshop

A Cabernet Franc Wine Tasting Workshop was held on Nov 25th, 2019 at the Unionville Winery located at Ringoes in Northern New Jersey. The purpose of the meeting was to taste and evaluate Cabernet Franc wines released from NJ. A survey was sent out to the industry to report clones, harvest, and fermentation parameters. Eastern Viticulture and Enology Forum has planned a virtual meeting on September 7th @ 3:00 PM ET. Here, regional viticulture and enology specialists will present a Grower and Winemaker Town Hall virtual meeting series to give seasonal updates and answer pre-submitted and live questions from grape and wine industry stakeholders.

Chardonnay Wine Tasting and Evaluations Workshop

Wine Tasting and Evaluation of Chardonnay from New Jersey Wineries

August 18th (Wed): 9 am – Noon

Participants or Winemakers will be invited to bring their own wine release. Each wine tasting will be followed by discussions on harvest parameters, fermentation methods, materials and techniques, etc. Please read the recap of the past Chardonnay workshop at  https://njvines.rutgers.edu/chardonnay-tasting-workshop-recap/ to get an idea of overview of the program.

Pre-registration Required: Registration is $30 for each attendee. Space is limited to 35 participants.
