Fire Blight – Post bloom
As indicated by the Cougar Blight Model, conditions for the period 5/1-5/4 could be conducive for fire blight in southern counties. There may be a risk on Thursday if temperatures in the mid 70’s occur as forecast, depending on flower development and temperature. Watch the conditions carefully and check the model throughout the day to see if the risk increases.
Options for fire blight control at bloom include streptomycin and oxytetracycline formulations. These materials should be rotated for resistance management. Apply strpetomycin at 24-48 ozs./acre alone or at 12-24 ozs. plus 8 ozs. regulaid or 4 qts. of glycerin. Apply Mycoshield at 16 ozs./acre or Fireline at 16-24 ozs./ac.
