Each year, the production guide is updated to the latest information based on findings here at Rutgers as well results from other universities. New information and products from agricultural companies is also an important part of the annual update.
Below is a listing of updates made in the 2016 edition that relate to tree fruit disease control. The changes are listed by crop, chapter, or section.
Peach and Nectarine
- Syllit fungicide – do not apply after petal fall stage
- Oso 5%SC – new fungicide added
- Rovral, Meteor – rated ‘poor’ for rusty spot control (previously unrated for rusty spot)
- Rally – downgraded from ‘good’ to ‘fair’ for blossom blight control
- Abound, Gem – downgraded from ‘excellent’ to ‘good’ for blossom blight control
Apple
- Syllit fungicide – do not apply after pink stage; maximum rate now 1.5 pt/A and 1 lb/A for FL and WG formulations, respectively
Fungicides and Bactericides
- MeloCon – non-fumigant nematicide added
- Oso 5%SC – updated description
- Oxidate – broad-spectrum bactericide / fungicide added
- Rendition – broad-spectrum surface sterilant added
- Scala 5SC – updated description
Below are changes that were not included in the 2016 guide, but will be added to the 2017 guide. The peach updates resulted from a recent analysis of data from experiments conducted at Rutgers.
Peach and Nectarine
- Sulfur (micronized) – upgraded from “fair” to “good” for peach scab control
- Thiram – rated as “fair” for peach scab control (previously unrated for scab)
Apple
- Aprovia – new SDHI fungicide registered for use on most pome fruits; details to follow
